Anmälan till blueshelgen: Anmälan är nu öppen för WCJ-medlemmar och det är redan fullbokat. (Man kan fortfarande anmäla sig och hamnar då i kö.) Den 20-21 mars blir det workshop i blues på Forum igen, den här gången med Damon Stone och Bryn Morin. Helgen är öppen för alla men det rekommenderas att man har dansat pardans i åtminstone ett år. Anmälan block för block Blueshelgens lektioner består av fyra block och du kan anmäla dig ett eller flera. Blueshelgen, 1: A Taste of Blues and Down Home Blues 1. A Taste of Blues Damon will cover the basics of a number of different Blues dances giving you a broad vocabulary of moves and styles. No matter what style of Blues music is played you will be on the floor living it up. 2. Down Home Blues The oldest traced "Blues Dance" is the Slow Drag. This versatile one-step was done across the country to every form of Blues music, but really developed into a gritty, down-home favorite of isolations and improvisation in the deep South. Learn the rare Delta-style that started it all. Beginners will get a firm grasp of traditional Slow Drag and what may be one of the best foundations for Blues, and advanced dancers will get to challenge themselves with the polyrhythm of this deceptively simple dance. Caution, teachers not responsible for exploding heads! Blueshelgen, 2: Ballroomin Blues and Blues dancing to faster music 3. Ballroomin Blues Learn one of the original partnered slow dances created by Lindy hoppers at the Savoy Ballroom in Harlem, which was their groovier, bluesy impression of ballroom dance characterized by large relaxed and flashy movements, in typical Savoy fashion. 4. Blues dancing to faster music Blues!=Slow. Blues music has a range comparable to jazz music, but blues dance has gotten pigeon-holed into slow dancing to slow music. We'll introduce you to the styles that scale and have you dancing blues +200 bpm. Blueshelgen, 3: Jookin'; The Basics and Beyond and Breakaways 5. Jookin': The Basics and Beyond Jookin' isn't just a collection of dances, it's an attitude, a mindset in approaching blues music and dancing. This family style of Blues from Memphis emphasizes improvisation, layered rhythms, staccato movement, and body isolation. We'll cover the foundational dances of this sub-style of blues and concentrate on improvisation and attitude two of the most important elements of Jookin'. 6. Breakaways This class will focus on how to flow back and forth between partnered and non-partnered moves keeping the feel and connection established even when there is no physical contact. Blueshelgen, 4: From Kintae to Krump: the Black aesthetic of cool and hot and Music in 3D 7. From Kintae to Krump: the Black aesthetic of cool and hot. This class will discuss and discover through solo and partnered movement the values of the Black communities that created Swing, Blues, and Jazz dance and how it brought together technique and artistry to influence not just contemporary American dance but our ideas of what is hot and cool. 8. Music in 3D Musicality... a word often used as a catch all term for everything from being on the beat to hitting breaks, and used to justify dancing fast, slow, moving all over the place or barely at all... all to the same song. Musicality is about putting what you hear in the music out into the world to be enjoyed by as many senses as possible. We'll break down the most common elements in blues music and how they correspond to movement and partner dynamic.
