About
The Scandinavian Shuffle
The Scandinavian Shuffle has previously been held in Copenhagen in 2009 and in Helsinki 2010. In 2011, the event will be held in Göteborg on the Swedish west coast, February 11th-13th.
If you've visited previous events, you'll be familiar with the concept: social dancing to live bands every night - with local balboa dancers as well as dancers who travelled around the globe just to get to Scandinavia. In the daytime, there'll be opportunity to discover the beautiful city of Göteborg and its surroundings, through cultural activities, sight-seeing or just having a lie-in to regain energy for the upcoming night. For further details about schedule and what's included, please check out the Schedule and Registration pages.
Göteborg
Göteborg, being the second largest city in Sweden, is situated on the Swedish west coast. With almost 1 million people in the metropolitan area, there is a big and living dance scene. The non-profit community West Coast Jitterbugs has been spreading Lindy Hop, Balboa and Boogie Woogie since 1983, with a strong focus on social dance.
The interest for Balboa has increased a lot in recent years and it happens that the Balboa floor is as crowded as the Lindy hop floor.
Venues
The dance will take place at WCJ's ballroom Forum in Guldheden and at Ruckman's, beautifully situated by the sea. Wooden floors, live bands and of course, a great opportunity to dance with both locals and visitors.
Public transportation to Forum: Tram 10 direction Guldheden, get off at Doktor Fries Torg. At the far opposite end of the square you find Forum. Public transportation to Ruckman's: Tram 11 direction Saltholmen, get off at Nya Varvsallén, walk the road with the same name and make your way down to the water where you find Ruckman's. The walk is less than 1000 m.

Cultural Activities
Join the Scandinavian Shuffle Tram that will take us on a guided tour in Göteborg. Make sure you get a place on the tram by sending an email to shuffle@wcj.nu. Cost: 50 SEK, to be payed at registration on Friday night.
The tram tour will end at Järntorget where we will do a balboa flash mob. Then we’ll go to Annedalsgården (Carl Grimbergsg 52) to learn some Slängpolska, a Swedish traditional couple dance. Slängpolska was very popular on the social dancefloor in the eigthteenth and nineteenth century. And today still alive! After this it’s time for lunch. Feel free to join all activities or drop in and out as you please.
Private Lessons
Some great balboa teachers will visit the event to offer private lessons during the weekend. Contact them directly if you want to sign up for a class.

Jigwalk, which sells fine vintage-inspired clothing & shoes, will be at the event and will offer all full-weekend participants 100 SEK discount! (*applies to total purchase price and does not apply on already discounted items). Just show your weekend pass at time of purchase. Take a look at Jigwalk's assortment!
